九つの庭と

幾つものアート作品や植栽が、生活の中に溶け込み、空間と調和するように計画した住宅である。アートと建築を一体として考え、各作品に応じたスケール感の空間を生活の場の中につくっている。

また、この地域は、土地区画整理が行われ、昔の街区や道路の痕跡は消されている。商品化住宅や、均質な事務所、集合住宅、巨大な工場、整形の公園。これらが混在した平たい新しい景色に対して、住宅として、というよりは、用途が判然としない“何ものでもない量塊のような佇まいの建築が適すると考えた。なので、用途から導かれる建築イメージに近づいてしまうのではなく、敷地条件や外部の取り込み方を検討する中で、求められる機能を空間に埋め込むような流れで設計を進めた。

ここでは、九つの「庭」（＝外部）を内包する建物を考えた。外形的には、閉じた殻のように内部の生活を守りつつ、その内側では多様な九つの「庭」が広がる。部屋固有の「庭」や、連なりのある「庭」が各階に散らばり、生活を彩る。「庭」が混在した建物では、生活の幾つもの場面が外部環境と密接である。木々の揺らめきや、木漏れ日。トップライトに落ちる雨粒。水盤の波紋。直射光と壁から反射した光。

外部環境を感じつつ、住宅としてのプライバシーを保つ。外と繋がりながら閉じる。開きながら守る。囲われた中で、外部が混ざり合うような住宅が、この場所に調和すると考えた。

With Nine Gardens

The house was designed to integrate several artworks and plants into everyday life and harmonize them with the space. We regarded art and architecture as one and created spaces with a sense of scale that corresponds to each artwork within the living environment.

The area had undergone land readjustment, and all traces of the old town blocks and roads have been erased. The new flat landscape, interspersed with built-for-sale houses, homogeneous offices, housing complexes, enormous factories, and a rectangular park, seemed more appropriate for an architecture that looks like a “mass of nothing” without any specific use than a residence. Therefore, we proceeded with the design by embedding the required functions into the spaces while considering the site conditions and how to incorporate the outside rather than trying to approximate an architectural image derived from the intended use of the building.

Here, we envisioned a building encompassing nine “gardens” (exteriors). The exterior form protects the life inside like a closed shell, with nine diverse “gardens” spreading out inside. There “gardens” dedicated to each room and a series of interconnected “gardens” are scattered throughout each floor to accentuate the life inside. In the building interspersed with the “gardens,” many scenes of daily life closely intertwine with various natural phenomena in the exterior environment, such as swaying trees, sunlight filtering through the trees, raindrops falling on the top light, ripples on the water table, direct light, and light reflected off the walls.

The house maintains privacy while allowing a sense of the exterior environment. It connects with the outside while remaining closed. It opens while protecting life inside. We thought that a house that mingles with the outside in an enclosed setting would be appropriate for this location.
